Get Ready for eFTI!  9 July 2027 – countdown to compliance starts now!

On 11 December 2025, Slovenia organised its first national event dedicated to the implementation of the eFTI Regulation, marking an important milestone within the framework of the eFTI4LIVE project. The event took place in Ljubljana and brought together national authorities and key stakeholders to align on priorities, governance and the next steps towards digital freight transport information.

From coordination to concrete implementation

The meeting included a review of progress since the first working group session, an overview of the eFTI4LIVE project and, most importantly, the presentation of Slovenia’s proposed national pilot.

Slovenia participates in eFTI4LIVE with the Ministry of Infrastructure responsible for the development and implementation of the national eFTI gate, while Trinet d.o.o. leads the development of the eFTI platform. Recent milestones were also highlighted, including the formalisation of project participation and the launch of preparatory activities for the pilot phase.

Launch of the Slovenian National Pilot

A central point of the meeting was the introduction of the Slovenian national pilot, jointly implemented by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Trinet d.o.o.

The pilot will:

  • Cover multiple transport modes, including road, rail and multimodal operations

  • Develop and test the national eFTI gate

  • Involve key competent authorities such as Police, Financial Administration, Infrastructure Inspectorate, Civil Protection authorities and DARS (Slovenian Motorway Company)

  • Engage the national accreditation body

  • Include major economic operators such as Slovenian Railways, the Port of Koper, Fraport Slovenia and selected transport companies

The objective is to test national and cross-border use cases, ensure interoperability and demonstrate the practical benefits of eFTI for both public authorities and private sector stakeholders.

Clear timeline towards 2027

Testing activities are planned from January 2026 to July 2027, alongside procurement procedures and progressive implementation of the national eFTI gate. Full implementation of the gate is expected by July 2027, in line with the date when the eFTI Regulation becomes fully applicable across the European Union. The development of the national eFTI platform will continue beyond that milestone to ensure long-term operational readiness.

Strengthening national coordination

By organising this first national eFTI event under eFTI4LIVE, Slovenia has demonstrated a structured and coordinated approach to implementation. The meeting reinforced the importance of cooperation between ministries, competent authorities, accreditation bodies and economic operators to ensure a smooth transition from paper-based documentation to secure and interoperable digital freight transport information.
