Get Ready for eFTI!  9 July 2027 – countdown to compliance starts now!

On 11 June 2026, eFTI4LIVE partner 51Biz participated in the Global Exchange Network Association (GENA) Supply Chain Working Group (SCWG) meeting, where the upcoming implementation of the eFTI Regulation was presented and discussed with experts from the digital trade and e-invoicing community.

During the session, Rudy Hemeleers provided an overview of the eFTI Regulation, its objectives, architecture and implementation timeline. Participants were reminded that, from July 2027, public authorities across the European Union will be required to accept freight transport information electronically. While the use of eFTI will remain optional for economic operators, those wishing to exchange transport information digitally with authorities will need to rely on certified eFTI platforms.

The presentation highlighted the close relationship between eFTI and eCMR. While eCMR supports the digital exchange of transport information between business partners, eFTI extends this concept to business-to-government (B2G) interactions, creating a trusted environment for sharing freight transport data with competent authorities. Discussions also explored how eFTI could complement existing digital ecosystems, including e-invoicing networks, customs systems and other data-sharing initiatives.

Participants exchanged views on the challenges and opportunities ahead, including certification requirements, interoperability across Member States and the gradual rollout of the future eFTI ecosystem. The discussion confirmed a strong interest in seeking convergence between established e-invoicing communities and the trusted data-sharing environment enabled by eFTI.

The meeting demonstrated that eFTI is steadily moving from policy development towards practical implementation and is set to become a key building block of Europe’s future digital logistics infrastructure.
