On 18 June 2026, eFTI stakeholders in the Netherlands gathered to celebrate an important milestone in the country’s journey towards the implementation of the eFTI Regulation. The event marked five years of collaboration between Dutch competent authorities, the national eFTI project team and the developers of the Dutch eFTI Gate, highlighting the progress achieved through close cooperation and a shared commitment to digitalising freight transport.
The Dutch eFTI Board, established in June 2021, has played a key role in shaping the national implementation of eFTI by bringing together all competent authorities involved in the initiative. Since its creation, the Board has contributed to discussions on the regulatory framework, supported technical decisions within the DTLF and EDANOS processes, and helped define the requirements for the Dutch eFTI Gate. Each authority has also taken responsibility for integrating the eFTI Gate into its own operational systems, ensuring a coordinated national approach.
A major focus of the event was the celebration of two significant technical achievements. Participants marked the successful interoperability connection between the Dutch and Austrian eFTI Gates, demonstrating cross-border data exchange capabilities, as well as the integration of the first Dutch competent authority with its operational system, representing an important step towards real-world implementation.
The programme also featured a series of live demonstrations, allowing participants to explore the different building blocks of the emerging Dutch eFTI ecosystem. Through interactive sessions, attendees discovered the overall implementation roadmap for the Dutch eFTI Gate, the QR code solution designed for roadside inspectors, the exchange of electronic freight information with Austria, and the role of NDW, which will become the future National Contact Point for eFTI in the Netherlands.
The meeting concluded with a discussion on the next steps for the Dutch eFTI ecosystem. While the event primarily involved public authorities, participants underlined that the ultimate objective remains delivering tangible business value for economic operators, reducing administrative burden and enabling more efficient digital freight transport processes. The Dutch team also expressed its commitment to involving industry stakeholders more closely as implementation progresses.
These achievements represent another important step towards the practical deployment of eFTI in Europe, demonstrating how cooperation between competent authorities, technology providers and cross-border partners is transforming the eFTI Regulation into operational reality.
